We were the second borough in the city to ensure that every private landlord must hold a licence that’s only granted if their property meets strict standards on maintenance and safety. We’ve carried out over 8,000 inspections, improving conditions and enforcing unlimited fines on rogue landlords. We’re also helping tenants at risk of eviction with financial support, benefits advice, employment help and mediation. And we’re cutting bills with energy-efficient home improvements.

Nationally, Labour is standing up for renters. The new Labour government has banned no-fault evictions, extended notice periods, and introduced a national landlord register and minimum housing standards. They have made it illegal to discriminate against tenants with children, pets, or those receiving benefits.
