Our record on community safety:

  • Our pioneering Safer Routes scheme made sure young people can walk safely to and from school and college with support staff along key routes.

  • Following our Citizens Assembly on Neighbourhood Policing, in 2026 73% of our residents now have trust and confidence in the police, up 16% in two years.

  • We invested £1 million in our state-of-the-art CCTV facilities. The Council’s control room is staffed 24/7 365 days a year, surveying 1300 CCTV cameras at hotspots across the borough and uses 67 deployable cameras to tackle issues in real time.

  • We improved crossings and junctions, introduced new traffic calming measures and yellow lines, and held community speedwatches across the borough.

Our record on our streets:

  • We invested in parks and playgrounds in Walthamstow, Chingford, Leyton and Leytonstone by directing contributions from new developments into the renewal of our parks. These include Lloyd Park, Chase Lane, Drapers Field, Wingfield Park and Langthorne Park.

  • We were tough on fly-tippers - issuing over 2,750 Fixed Penalty Notices last year, increasing the fine for these offences by 88%, and deploying more mobile cameras to catch and deter those who disrespect our neighbourhoods.

  • We repaired 4,300 potholes in 2024/25 - way above the London average of 2,587. GoCompare listed us as the fastest council in England for pothole repairs.

Our record on our environment:

  • Our Council led the country in supporting low carbon journeys with 56 kms of cycle track - highest in London, 1,200 cycle hangars - the second highest in the UK, and 1,800 electric vehicle charging points -the seventh highest in the UK.

  • We invested record amounts in flood protection in our neighbourhoods, such as rain gardens, permeable road surfaces, wetlands and water butts, which all increase biodiversity in our residential streets.

  • We equipped thousands of residents and community groups with bulbs, trees, wildflowers and gardening tools to support nature on our doorsteps.

  • We achieved the highest levels of recycling in Waltham Forest’s history - adding the most recyclable items in London including food, blister packs and carpets than any other London borough, and worked with local communities to run our popular Reuse and Recycle Fairs.
